I started studying pottery during college at the University of Vermont. I was only able to learn the basics, but I learned enough to know that it was something that I would be drawn to my whole life. I moved abroad for work and found myself "studying" pottery wherever I went. I lived in Southern Spain, Athens, France, and Poland. Each place I lived I would draw shapes and patterns from pieces I saw in museums or in galleries. When I finally came back to the States, I had a library of forms and patterns that were waiting to emerge. I started throwing again and found great satisfaction in hand painting mandala patterns inside my bowls.
I use high-fire white stoneware, underglazes, and a tiny, tiny brush. Then I cover it with clear glaze to bring out the colors.
