A life time fascination with textiles and fibers and a love of sewing has inspired me to create one-of-a-kind wearable and wall art designs. The beautiful colors and textures of nature provide inspiration for my work. My desire is for others to be able to see something that inspires them in my art and to feel beautiful wearing my fashion designs.
I hand dye many of the fabrics and fibers used in my work using a variety of dyes and techniques, such as shibori. Shibori techniques include clamping, stitching and pole wrapping. The "transformed" silk chiffon/ organza pieces begin as white silk organza. A variety of shibori techniques are used to create a resist and then the sericin is removed from the other areas of the fabric to create beautiful patterns. When dyed, the colors are absorbed differently by the organza and chiffon creating the color variations.
Additional manipulation of the textiles and fibers, and usage of a variety of embellishment techniques such as beading, quilting, applique and embroidery provide unique details on each of my pieces.
