Moon Star Studio is represented by two "collaborative artists" who alone design and execute each piece personally in the studio setting; ie., no "mass production". Rather, through a two step, two studio process, we produce only original, signed and very limited edition art furniture and two dimensional works. We use fine, solid hardwoods blending primarily maples, cherry, walnut, and additional decorative hardwoods in each piece. Further embellishments to achieve both texture and dimension may include leather, hand smithed iron, copper and multiple organic materials. Additionally each piece is hand painted in oils and finished in a manner to best complement, not obliterate, the beautiful woods. Finally, each piece is inscribed with original poetry/aphorisms to provide definition and purpose to the work.
Although the "end product" piece may sometimes fall into the category of "functional art", it is important to stress that we begin with the underlying idea of what we mean to express, and that idea gives rise to the form of the piece. That is to say, "function" is not of primary importance in the design. We are strongly influenced by "spiritual" and "nature symbols" frequently incorporated into the work in a blending of geometric/graphic design with naive representational form.
At present, we are interested in focusing on a kind of synthesis of Spanish, Native American and Anglo archetypal symbols to reflect an integrated, co-dependent Western heritage.
